Ottawa Public Health confirming more COVID-19 vaccine appointments available in the city

Ottawa Public Health (OPH) says more doses of COVID-19 vaccine are expected to arrive in the city, which means more appointments are being made available for eligible residents.

Appointments at local community clinics are available to residents age 60 and over (born in or before 1961) and will now be available between May 1 and 28.

The City of Ottawa continues to focus on high-priority neighbourhoods. It's staff and OPH officials say they will conduct targeted outreach to adults who live or work in those neighbourhoods and use a variety of strategies to book appointments for these residents at clinics, starting May 1.

The neighbourhoods identified as high-priority in Ottawa are:

  • Britannia Village
  • Carleton Heights-Rideauview
  • Carlington
  • Carson Grove-Carson Meadows
  • Centretown West
  • Emerald Woods
  • Greenboro East
  • Hawthorne Meadows
  • Heatherington
  • Heron Gate
  • Hunt Club East-Western Community
  • Hunt Club Park
  • Ledbury
  • Lowertown (Lowertown East)
  • Manor Park
  • Overbrook-McArthur
  • Parkwood Hills
  • Ridgemont
  • Riverview
  • Sandy Hill
  • Sawmill Creek
  • Bayshore-Belltown
  • Sheffield Glen
  • Stewart Farm
  • Vanier North
  • Vanier South
  • Whitehaven-Queensway Terrace North

Meanwhile, the Government of Ontario has lowered the age limit for individuals living in one of the three provincially defined “hot spots” in Ottawa, that have postal codes beginning with K1T, K1V or K2V. Residents 45 and over (born in or before 1976) living in one of these areas, can also visit ontario.ca/bookvaccine to book an appointment at one of the city’s community clinics starting Tuesday, April 27. Residents can also call the provincial vaccine booking line at 1-833-943-3900 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., seven days a week.

OPH says additional appointments will open in Ottawa when more vaccine supply is confirmed.

The number of additional COVID-19 vaccine doses Ottawa has received this week has not been made available. As of Monday, the city had received 307,470 doses and had administered 94 per cent of them. It's last shipment was reported on Sunday, April 18.

Residents are reminded that when booking an appointment through the provincial booking system, they will receive a confirmation code. They are to bring that code with them when they go to their appointments. If they do not get a confirmation code, the appointments were not successfully completed. They will need to revisit the provincial booking system or call 1-833-943-3900 to book appointments and receive their code.

Effective Thursday, April 29, child care workers in licensed child care settings will be eligible to book an appointment through the provincial booking line. Eligible workers in licensed child care settings will receive a letter from their employer. OPH says this letter must be available at the point of booking and taken to the vaccination appointment. In the coming weeks, eligibility is being expanded to child care workers in unlicensed child care settings across the province.
