The City of Ottawa will soon be looking for a new General Manager of Transportation Services, as City Manager Steve Kanellakos says John Manconi will be retiring from the position this fall.
“I am very happy for John as he transitions to the next chapter of his life,” writes Kanellakos in memo to the mayor and city council, Thursday, May 6. “However, I recognize that his departure will be felt by all in our organization.”
After 32 years with the City of Ottawa, Manconi's last day is set for September 30.

“John is a dynamic, results driven leader who has carried the weight and burden of many leadership roles and over the last ten years leading the Transportation Services Department and the Stage 1 and Stage 2 Light Rail projects, which are the largest infrastructure projects in the City’s history,” adds the city manager.
Kanellakos says the next five months will provide the city the opportunity to ensure that it can conduct a thorough search for Manconi's replacement, and transition the many files that he is actively engaged in.
The city manager expects to provide more details as he finalizes the recruitment process. He also plans to provide “a more comprehensive parting message and public recognition plans as we get closer to John’s departure date.”
