The City of Ottawa is launching a $131-million lawsuit against Rideau Transit Group (RTG), as it claims the light rail builder breached its contract relating to construction during Stage 1 of the city's light rail transit plan.
Mayor Jim Watson made the announcement during a news conference on Tuesday, May 18.
“The City of Ottawa issued a notice of dispute and commenced an action in the Superior Court in Ottawa in respect of the independent certifier's decision that the city is responsible for any additional cost for Ashwood, and also its failure to address the city's counter-claims against RTG on the issues of the Alstom train design and sinkhole costs,” explained the mayor.
Watson clarified the filing does not impact the light rail construction that is ongoing.
Since the matter is before the court, the mayor said he could not comment any further on the matter.
