Handgun, drugs, cash seized in search of Arnprior home

Two men are facing charges after police seized illegal drugs, cash and a handgun at a home in Arnprior.

Ontario Provincial Police officers executed a search warrant on Elgin Street West on May 20, and found suspected cocaine, Canadian currency, cell phones and other items associated with drug trafficking, including a handgun.

Daphne Graham, 26, and Miguel Ortiz-Umana, 31, of Arnprior, were charged with the following offences:

• Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine – sec. 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
• Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose – Criminal Code (CC) sec. 88
• Unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm – (CC) sec. 91(1)
• Knowledge of unauthorized firearm – (CC) sec. 92(1)
• Possession of proceeds obtained by crime over $5000 – (CC) sec. 354 (1) (a)
• Careless storage of a firearm – (CC) sec. 86 (2)
• Fail to comply with probation order – (CC) sec. 733.1 (1)
• Possession of a firearm while prohibited – (CC) sec. 117.01 (1)

Ortiz-Umana remains in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on May 28 for a bail hearing via video link.

Graham was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Renfrew on August 18.
