Body found at Hog’s Back Falls confirmed as that of missing 24-year-old

The Regional Coroner's Office is confirming that a body found near Hog's Back Falls earlier this week is that of Jesse Tessier.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) was initially called to the falls at about 7 p.m. on May 15, after a report of a man falling into the water. Water rescue teams ended their search for the 24-year-old at about 10 p.m. that night and turned their investigation over to the Ottawa Police Service (OPS).

The OPS says its search for Tessier on the Rideau River was conducted by its Marine, Dive and Trails Unit and the Paramedic Marine Unit, in the water, on the ground and in the air. It started the evening of May 15 and lasted until the end of day on May 19, and then again on May 24, to no avail.

Around 3:35 p.m. on May 25, police received a call from a passerby about a body floating near Hog's Back Falls. The Ottawa Police Marine Unit and OFS recovered the body that evening.

The OPS has completed the notification of next of kin and says its thoughts are with Tessier's family and friends.
