Smiths Falls police issue 42 tickets, make two arrests during Canada Road Safety Week
The Smiths Falls Police Service (SFPS) issued 41 tickets and made two arrests during Canada Road Safety Week.
The annual safety campaign, which ran from Tuesday, May 18 to Monday, May 24, saw officers crack down on the “Big 4” — aggressive driving/speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving and seatbelt usage.
During the week-long campaign, the SFPS issued the following tickets and made two arrests:

- 27 tickets for speeding
- Four tickets for running stop signs
- Four tickets for running red/amber lights
- One ticket for using a handheld device
- One ticket for improper seatbelt use
- One ticket for driving left of centre
- One ticket for driving with liquor readily available
- One ticket for liquor in open container other than residence
- One ticket for an unsafe move
- One arrest for driving while impaired by drugs and alcohol
- One arrest for refusal of demand for an impaired driving-related offence
The SFPS wants to remind residents that just because the campaign has ended, officers are still conducting spot and RIDE checks around town.
