Two people displaced by fire in Blackburn Hamlet

By Alex Black

A fire in Blackburn Hamlet has left two people without a place to stay.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to a 911 call after an alarm was triggered in one unit of a building on Innes Road near Bearbrooke Road.

Crews arrived on the scene just before 5:30 a.m. and found heavy smoke on the third floor of the building. A working fire was then declared.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and avoid damage to other units.

There was no one inside at the time of the fire and there were no injuries reported.

There is no word on what caused the blaze and OFS says a fire investigator has not been called in.

The Canadian Red Cross is responding.
