Navan Fair hosting ‘upside down’ parade, demolition derby this weekend

By Mike Vlasveld

There's no Navan Fair this year, but its organizers are still putting on two of the biggest events which would normally be part of the festivities.

First comes the upside down parade at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 14.

“In a normal parade, everyone lines up along the road and the floats move by you,” Tracey Hayes explains on CityNews Ottawa's The Sam Laprade Show. “Well, in this case, our floats and displays are stationary throughout the fair grounds, and you stay in your car and you do the driving through and see it.”

The Ottawa Fire Services Brass Band, Heritage Hands drum band, Celtic dancers and antique farm vehicles will also be seen at the parade.

There's no charge for the parade, but Hayes says food and cash donations are welcome. Donations will be going to the Orléans-Cumberland Community Resource Centre. Monetary donations can also be made to the Cumberland Township Agricultural Society.

The demolition derby then gets started at 2 p.m. (gates open at 1 p.m.) and goes until one car is left standing. Tickets for the derby can be found online.
