OPP seize methamphetamine during traffic stop in Prescott

A traffic stop and short police chase in Prescott has led to charges against a man wanted on multiple warrants.

Around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, August 16, a member of the Grenville County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting general patrol on King Street West, in Prescott, when the officer noticed a driver not wearing their seatbelt.

The officer conducted a traffic stop, but the driver fled on foot and was caught after a short foot chase. A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of suspected methamphetamine tablets.

A 50-year-old man from Prescott faces the following the charges:

  • Operation while prohibited
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Driver – fail to properly wear seatbelt

The accused was taken into custody ahead of a bail hearing scheduled in Brockville on Tuesday, August 17.
