Second degree murder charge laid after OCDC assault victim dies

A 20-year-old inmate at the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre (OCDC) is being charged with second degree murder after a man who was beaten at the facility succumbed to his injuries.
Ottawa police say Zakaria Sheek-Hussein, 34, of Ottawa was assaulted on February 24, 2021, and died on July 24.
Donald Musselman was charged with aggravated assault after the initial incident, and he now stands charged with second degree murder.
He appeared in court on Wednesday, August 18, by video conference and was remanded into custody.
