More than 40 Afghan families have resettled in Ottawa.

Refugee 613, an organization that supports refugees and helps to build stronger communities, said on social media that most of them are government-assisted refugees and the Catholic Centre for Immigrants is organizing their resettlement.

Around 1,500 hundred others are completing their COVID-19 quarantine in Toronto and are awaiting confirmation of their final destinations.

The federal government has plans to bring 20,000 refugees to Canada, which Refugee 613 says could take five months to two years. So far, about 3,500 have arrived.

It is not known how many will eventually come to the capital.
