Ottawa soccer player still alive thanks to public-access defibrillator

By CityNews Ottawa

Ottawa paramedics say a public-access defibrillator has saved the life of a man in his mid-50s.

The man suddenly collapsed without vital signs while playing an outdoor soccer match at the Richcraft Recreation Complex, in Kanata on Friday, September 3.

Bystanders performed CPR before using an automated external defibrillator to give the man's heart one shock. That restored his heartbeat before paramedics arrived to take him to hospital.

Paramedics say this shows the importance of being trained in CPR and how to use a defibrillator.
