Renfrew billboard looking to bring attention to murder victim

After three years, provincial police still have few leads on what transpired on the night of May 19, 2023.

Johnathan Logan, 41, was fatally shot inside a home on Vimy Boulevard in Renfrew, Ont. When police arrived, they found Johnathan with life-threatening gunshot wounds, and he was rushed to hospital. Officers said that the person responsible left the area before they arrived, along with several other people who might have witnessed the incident.

The suspect has not been identified. Police said they believe Johnathan was targeted after gathering initial information. However, they are still looking for people to come forward.

Provincial police have already announced a $50,000 reward for help leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for Johnathan’s death. A video calling on people to come forward was also launched in May, which featured Johnathan’s mother pleading for answers.

The billboard is standing on the south side of Highway 60 at Innovation Drive, facing north in the Town of Renfrew.

“The installation of this billboard marks another step in our commitment to find answers for Jonathan’s family, his friends and the Renfrew community,” OPP Detective Inspector Erin Thomas, CIB. “The public deserves to see those responsible for this violent crime held accountable. We are confident that someone in the community has information that will solve this case. Now is the time to come forward.”

‘Am I even still a mother?’

Catherine Logan fought back tears as she explained what happened the night her son was killed. In the video released by the Ontario Provincial Police, Catherine says one of the officers told her about an “incident” on Vimy Boulevard.

“He had said there had been shooting, and there had been a victim…And that Johnathan, my son, was the victim,” Catherine said. “And that’s how I found out my son had died at the hands of a gunman.

He was Catherine’s only child.

“I wonder sometimes, am I still a mom?,” she said.

Catherine said Johnathan was a “protector,” he would stand up for any of his friends. She said that if the roles were reversed and it was one of his friends who was killed, he would have done the right thing.

“I know a lot of them know something, and I understand they’re scared. I would be too,” Catherine said. “But it’s my son and I need answers.”
