Gatineau police offering $50,000 reward for information in 2006 Kelly Morrisseau murder

By Mike Vlasveld

The Service de police de la Ville de Gatineau (SPVG) is offering its largest ever reward for information which could lead to an arrest in a 15-year-old murder investigation.

The SPVG says, thanks to a generous donor who wishes to remain anonymous, it's offering a new $50,000 reward from the Jeunesse au soleil organization as it continues to investigate the 2006 killing of Kelly Morrisseau.

Morrisseau was last seen alive on December 10, 2006, around 4 a.m. on Montfort Street in Ottawa's Vanier neighbourhood. She was 27 years old, a mother of three and pregnant at the time.

Police say the victim was with a man, and was seen getting into his car — possibly a late 80s model Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera or Calais. That man remains the main suspect in Morrisseau's murder. A composite sketch was released a few months after the crime, based on information received from the public and through investigations. The suspect's appearance may have changed over the years, however.

According to evidence gathered during the investigation, police believe the victim and suspect met up to exchange sexual favours. The suspect may have solicited other women for such favours before or after the murder.

Morrisseau was found by a pedestrian around 5:40 a.m. in the P3 parking lot of Gatineau Park (near Gamelin Street). She died shortly thereafter, after suffering multiple wounds inflicted by a cutting weapon.

An autopsy revealed that the 27-year-old fought back forcefully. In fact, the murderer may have been wounded by the weapon as well.

Police later found items belonging to Morrisseau and evidence in Ruisseau des Frênes (near boulevard du Plateau) and behind the business at 115 boulevard du Plateau in Gatineau. Investigators say the suspect likely drove around in that area, and may have stepped out of the vehicle more than once in the early hours of December 10.

Anyone who may recall having seen the suspect's vehicle, or any other vehicle not identified as an emergency services vehicle, that morning is asked to contact police. Anyone who may have heard anything from someone or with even the smallest bit of information about this homicide is asked to contact SPVG with full confidentiality.

Anyone with information about this crime can share that information in complete confidentiality by calling 819-243-4636, option 1, or by filling out the form on the SPVG website.
