Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is reporting five new COVID-19-related deaths in the city, and says the number of local ICU patients is on the rise.

The latest people to die due to COVID-19 in Ottawa include: one person in their 50s; three in their 70s; one in their 80s. As of Tuesday, January 25, 2022, the city's death toll is up to 675, which includes: two in their 20s; one in their 30s; eight in their 40s; 34 in their 50s; 81 in their 60s; 132 in their 70s; 230 in their 80s; and 187 in their 90s.

OPH has reported 18 new COVID-related deaths since Friday.

Ontario is reporting 64 new COVID-19 deaths on Tuesday.

There are 92 Ottawa residents in hospital with the virus, 17 of whom are in intensive care. The local hospitalization number is unchanged from a day ago, but the ICU number is up four.

OPH says, when counting Ottawa and non-Ottawa residents, there are 169 in local hospitals with COVID-19, 25 of whom are in ICUs. It adds, 85 patients (five in ICU) contracted COVID while in hospital.

Across Ontario, 4,008 people are in the hospital with COVID-19, up from 3,861 reported on Monday. There are 626 COVID-19 patients in the ICU across the province, up from 615 a day ago.

Ottawa residents being tested for COVID-19 are seeing positive results 20 per cent of the time.

OPH says there are 155 COVID-19 outbreaks in local healthcare institutions, Tuesday, which is a drop from 160 reported on Monday.

The health unit is reporting 232 new cases of COVID-19, but says testing is still extremely limited in the city. OPH continues to ask everyone with COVID-19 symptoms, who is not a healthcare worker, to simply stay home and isolate instead of seeking a PCR test.

Ottawa's health unit says 81 per cent of the city's entire population has received at least two COVID-19 vaccines, to date, and 48 per cent have received three. Of residents over the age of 18, more than 496,000 (59 per cent) have had three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

OPH says 67 per cent of children between the ages of five and 11 have had one shot and 18 per cent have had two.
