‘Lawless winter wonderland’: Comedian Brittlestar pokes fun of Ottawa in latest spoof

Brittlestar is at it again.

The online comedian, widely known lately for parodying Canadian politics and the COVID-19 pandemic, has Ottawa firmly in his comedic crosshairs.

In his latest video published Sunday, February 13, the Ontario native managed to skewer the convoy protesters, the city, police force and government response – all in 30 seconds.

“Looking for the perfect getaway this winter? Tired of the rule of law and concern for others in society? Why not visit… Ottawa?” asks the comedian, whose real name is Stewart Reynolds.

With an image of Parliament Hill projected on his green screen backdrop, Reynolds calls the nation’s capital a “lawless winter wonderland” in the video captioned “Visit Ottawa.”

The anti-vaccine mandate protest branded as a “freedom convoy” of Canadian truckers has paralyzed Ottawa for more than two weeks since demonstrators first converged on the city’s downtown core on Jan. 28.

While elements of the protest have been peaceful, many others are wreaking havoc on the city’s residents.

Incessant honking, loud music, public intoxication, harassing of residents and business have characterized the demonstration.

Some areas of downtown Ottawa have turned into a full-on party, complete with DJ, tunes, a bounce house and even a tub.

“The streets have transformed into one of those carnivals that used to set up in the Towers or Kmart parking lot,” continued Reynolds in the video. “Except somehow sketchier with more drunk people and hot tubs.

“As the old saying goes, what happens in Ottawa is of no concern to the authorities.”

Part of the criticism throughout February has been directed at Ottawa’s police force. Accusations of inactivity – failing to ticket protesters adequately enough or towing away their vehicles – have become commonplace among those opposing the convoy.

“Ottawa, do whatever you want here. We won’t stop you,” said Reynolds. “And remember, parking is free.”
