UPDATE: Judge grants injunctions against noise, idling, fireworks in Ottawa

In a memo from City solicitor David White to city council members, White said the court agreed that the City's evidence of by-law violations was overwhelming and as such, the injunction will be issued on Monday, February 14.
“In particular, the Court Order retrains person from setting unlawful fires, discharging fireworks, causing noise, encumbering or damaging a highway by any means and idling of vehicles in contravention of the Idling Control By-law.”
The City's application was also joined by the Department of Justice (federal) and the Attorney General (Ontario), who were granted intervenor status and supported the City's application.
“In keeping with my previous comments, I would reiterate that the City does not and cannot direct the police in respect of handling of the protests, nor the enforcement of today's injunction,” White continued. “Rather, in concert with the recently enacted Provincial Emergency Orders, the injunction obtained by the City is intended to supplement the tools available to law enforcement authorities to address the unlawful conduct of protesters.”
The court, he added, will provide reasons for its deicision, to be delivered at a later date.

An Ontario judge has granted an injunction to enforce noise and idling by-laws in Ottawa.
The protest by anti-government demonstrators blockading city streets around Parliament Hill is now in its third week.
City solicitor David White requested the injunction Friday, saying the protesters were flagrantly violating by-laws against relentless noise, idling of trucks, setting off fireworks and open air fires.
White had requested an injuction on Friday, February 11.
This comes on the same day Prime Minister Justin Trudeau held a meeting with premiers across Canada to discuss potentially enacting the Emergencies Act.
Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson also tried striking a deal with convoy organizers over the weekend. His deal was if truckers were to move out of downtown neighbourhood starting on Monday, February 14 by noon, then he will meet with them.
