Confederation Park reopens to the public Tuesday morning

Ottawa's Confederation Park has officially reopened to the public, according to the National Capital Commission (NCC).

The park, which sits beside the Rideau Canal a few blocks from Parliament Hill, was fenced off to the public after so-called “Freedom Convoy” protesters built a wooden shed within the park, eventually moving it to another location a few kilometres away on Sunday, February 6.

Ottawa police said the park was closed off after that incident to prevent any further gatherings in the area.

At the beginning of February when demonstrations started encroaching on Ottawa's downtown core, demonstrators started setting up camp at Confederation Park.

On top of building the wooden structure, which was deemed a “community kitchen,” protesters were setting up tents as well as storing supplies such as fuel canisters and propane tanks.

The NCC announced fences surrounding Confederation Park were removed on the morning of Tuesday, March 1.
