Ottawa COVID-19 wastewater levels see slight drop for first time in weeks

By Dani-Elle Dubé

Ottawa is seeing some signs of hope with COVID-19 in the city as wastewater levels have shown a dip for the first time in several weeks.

According to data from the Ottawa COVID-8 wastewater monitoring projecting, the seven-day rolling mean viral signals have decreased — even if it is by slightly, although levels still remain at near-record highs.

However, data is currently being studied for the effects of snowmelt and other diluting factors which could impact readings.

On Thursday, April 14, Ottawa Public Health (OPH) reported 287 new cases in the region, as well as 1,837 active cases.

Eighteen people are in hospital with an active infection with two in the ICU.

There continues to be 48 outbreaks in institutional settings.
