Our Lady Peace bringing ‘Wonderful Future’ tour to Ottawa

Canadian alt-rock band Our Lady Peace will be making their way to Ottawa next month as part of their 'Wonderful Future' tour.

The band will be hitting the stage at the National Arts Centre on Tuesday, June 21, with the tour showcasing a combination of music and hologram technology.

“It's next level, the person's there,” Our Lady Peace lead singer Raine Maida told CityNews Ottawa. “It's not like this kind of blurred out, see-through transparent [hologram], it blows my mind. It just allows us to try and turn a rock concert into a more theatrical piece.”

The upcoming tour is also in support of the band's latest record 'Spiritual Machines 2', the follow-up to the first 'Spiritual Machines' album released in 2000. Both albums are inspired by the work of author Ray Kurzweil, who will be featured in hologram form on the tour.

“I've been trying to make this record for 10 years,” Maida explained. “It really comes down to taking the best parts of us I think, but moving it into the future.”

Maida feels it's essential for Our Lady Peace to push their sound forward with every new release.

“There's nothing exciting about repeating yourself or making the same record or even the same song,” he said. “I guess some record company would say 'that's stupid' but it's just my vibe and I think the band agrees with that — we have to find something new.”

Our Lady Peace also celebrated the 25th anniversary of their album 'Clumsy', which Maida felt was fun to relive and reflect on.

“It was one of those incredible moments for the band,” he added. “The album just kind of blew up all over the world and got to tour and see all these different cities and make fans everywhere.

More information on Our Lady Peace's upcoming show in Ottawa is available on the National Arts Centre's website.
