Incumbent John Fraser retains provincial seat in Ottawa South

The incumbent for Ottawa South is keeping his provincial seat for another term in office. 

John Fraser, the Liberal candidate for Ottawa South, won the riding unofficially with 45 per cent of the votes as reported by Elections Ontario.  

Fraser was first elected as the Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for the riding in 2013 in a by-election to replace Dalton McGuinty who retired. He defeated Progressive Conservative (PC) candidate Matt Young by 1,238 votes. He faced Young again in the 2014 provincial election, and won by 8,610 votes. 

In the 2018 provincial election, Fraser was re-elected as MPP for Ottawa South, receiving 5,464 more votes than PC candidate Karin Howard. Following the resignation of Kathleen Wynne is party leader, Fraser was appointed interim leader following a vote by caucus members, the party executive, and riding association presidents on June 14, 2018. 

After having been firmly Conservative for the first 60 years of its existence, Ottawa South has been a Liberal riding provincially since 1987.
