Man charged in relation to auto thefts

By CityNews Ottawa

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) charged one man in relation to several auto theft offences following the execution of two search warrants on June 8.

The OPS began an investigation in March of 2022 when the service received information that a man was presumably purchasing and using fraudulent vehicle identification number (VIN) plates

After executing search warrants in Ottawa's west end, OPS investigators recovered six new vehicles, key fob programming equipment, several keys and fraudulent information.

The vehicles had been stolen from Ottawa and area dealerships over the course of the last few months.

Ahmad Mohammad Nazim, 32, of Ottawa, was charged with:
  • Eights counts of theft of motor vehicles
  • Eight counts of possession of an automobile master key
  • Eight counts of fraud not exceeding $5,000
  • Eight counts of altering, removing or obliterating a vehicle identification
  • Seven counts of trafficking in property obtained by crime
  • Two counts of breaking and entering
  • Two counts of possession of break-in tools
  • Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

This is an ongoing investigation and the OPS believes Nazim may have sold vehicles to unsuspecting buyers and are asking anyone who may have dealt with him to contact the police.
