Candidate for Knoxdale-Merivale ward says top priority is to be a responsive councillor

By CityNews Staff

When a tornado crushed his neighbourhood of Trend Arlington in 2018, Sean Devine and his colleagues were the first on the ground responders. Now, he's hoping to bring that responsive and caring attitude to city council.

Devine — who is running for Knoxdale-Merivale ward — told The Sam Laprade Show on Wednesday, Aug. 17, that not only has he been a practicing artist for three decades but the president of the Trend Arlington Community Association for seven years.

“When you're the president of a community association, it's almost a good training ground for city council,” Devine said, adding that he's facilitated town halls, led community consultations and advocated against unwanted development.

His top priority is to be a councillor his ward can count on, as for issues, he wants to improve road safety and transit.

“Whether people are transit users or not, everybody recognizes that in order for our economy to thrive…for our city to grow in a sustainable way, we have to fix transit.”
