A city council hopeful for Stittsville said society must take responsibility to ensure hostility toward public figures does not become the norm.
Referencing the recent verbal assault on Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, Tanya Hein told The Sam Laprade Show on Monday, Aug. 29, that incidents like this cannot be brushed under the rug.
“I think everyone going into the political landscape knows that you're not going to please everyone all the time. It's just not possible,” she said. “But we also have to take responsibility as citizens and as a society to make sure that that does not become acceptable.”
Hein is hoping to please constituents with her stance on transit, which she wants to see become a viable alternative to driving.
“I'd really like to see it be something that we could just hop on without thinking too much about it, get where we need to go within a reasonable timeframe and come home again,” she said.
Also a long-time volunteer with the Stittsville Village Association, where she's primarily worked on planning and development files, Hein is prepared to ensure the community has the proper infrastructure to support the growing ward.
