Several people charged with impaired driving in Ottawa Upper Valley area
Several individuals were arrested and charged with impaired driving over the last week into the Labour Day long weekend.
On Aug. 31, at approximately 10:30 p.m., police were called to a business on Pembroke Street West in the Laurentian Valley Township due to “an unwanted person who had been driving.”
The next day, police conducted a traffic stop of a person driving an e-bike on Moffat Street in Pembroke.

Police used a Roadside Screening Device on both individuals and transported Robert Chaput, 63, of Petawawa, and Christopher Marchand, 60, of Pembroke to the detachment for further testing.
Chaput was charged with operating a vehicle while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 mg plus and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on Oct. 11.
Marchand faces the same charge and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on Oct. 4.
On Sept. 3, police conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Petawawa Boulevard. After a short foot chase police arrested the driver, Reid Wesley Locke, 37, who was then transported to the detachment for testing.
He was charged with the following offences:

- Flight from police officer
Locke was released and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on Oct. 4, 2022.
The same day, at approximately 7:10 p.m., police responded after a possible impaired driver was reported in the Laurentian Valley Township. Police located the vehicle on Beachburg Road and a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted with the driver as part of the investigation.
The driver, Marty Lowell Matthews, 42, of the Whitewater Region, was taken into custody and transported to the detachment for further testing by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer.
As a result of this investigation Matthews was charged with the following offences:
- Operation while impaired – drugs
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
Matthews was released and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on Oct. 11.

At 11:55 p.m., the same day, police responded to a single-vehicle dirt bike collision at a property on Cads Trail in Whitewater Region. The driver was taken to hospital by Renfrew County Paramedics with serious injuries.
A Roadside Screening Device was used as part of the investigation, and Scott Cory, 41, of Whitewater Region, was charged with the following offence:
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80mg plus
The accused was released and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on Oct. 11.
On Sept. 4, at approximately 2:15 a.m., police responded to a single vehicle motor vehicle collision on Pembroke Street West near Trafalgar Road in Pembroke. The investigation revealed that the involved vehicle left the roadway and struck curbing. No serious injuries were reported.
As a result of this investigation Riley James Richard Davidson, 23, of Renfrew, was charged with the following offences:

Davidson was released and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on Oct.18.
Police said the accused individuals had their driver's licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicles were towed and impounded for seven days.
