Stittsville council hopeful vows to call out corrupt developers

Two and a half years ago, when Mathew Duchesne started building his home in Stittsville, it became apparent that there were fundamental problems in the building process and the ward itself.
He's now hoping to rectify these problems as a city councillor for the ward, he told The Sam Laprade Show on Wednesday, Sept. 7.
Duchesne explained that because there's little government oversight, developers often abandon neighbourhoods before completion and leave residents with unfinished developments in their communities.
“The builders free reign, it's led by corruption, and the developers and the builders influence on council is major in the city,” he said.
Inadequate fire service in Stittsville is another issue, he said, explaining that the ex-head of the fire department has told him they lack the proper ladders to tackle fires beyond two stories.
Current councillor for Stittsville, Glen Gower, is pushing for more high rises yet not addressing the fire department's concerns, Duchesne said, adding that he feels it's his duty to call builders and developers out and voice these concerns.
“We really got to turn this around and address these critical issues,” he said.
