Two Ottawa residents charged following seizure of 46 firearms on Hwy. 401 east of Prescott

A six-month joint-police investigation has led to the seizure of 46 firearms on Highway 401 east of Prescott.

The firearms trafficking investigation was led by the Ottawa Police Service (OPS), with the assistance of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers from the Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit (PWEU), the Grenville County Detachment of the OPP and the Cornwall Police Service.

OPP officers executed a traffic stop on the 401 on Wednesday, Sept. 7, seizing the cache of weapons.

Morthaza Amirdad and Kyanoush Rezaei, both 31, of Ottawa, were arrested and face the following charges:

  • Possession for the Purpose of Weapons Trafficking
  • Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm/Ammunition
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Careless storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition

Rezaei faces an additional charge:

  • Possession of Schedule 1 Substance – Cocaine.  

Both accused were held in custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville at a later date.
