The Ottawa Senators have formally relaunched the Senators Community Foundation.

The launch took place on Sept. 20 as part of the Ottawa Senators Charity Open at the Loch March Golf and Country Club in Kanata.

“It has been an exiting summer for the Senators, but the relaunch of the Senators Community Foundation may be the most impactful addition to our community,” said Senators president of business operations Anthony LeBlanc. “In addition to the Charity Open golf tournament, the foundation will host a number of new and returning fundraising events, with the greater goal of enriching the lives of youth in the Ottawa-Gatineau region.”

The focus of the foundation includes five key pillars: education, mental health, physical wellness, growing the game and social impact.

The foundation will use signature major events along with the 50/50 raffle to raise funding which will be invested back into the Ottawa-Gatineau region.

The Charity Open on Tuesday, Sept. 20 made a $55,000 donation to support the Youth Services Bureau and their programs to support mental health. The foundation also pledged $25,000 both to the Ottawa Education Network's breakfast program, to help feed students, and to Roger Neilson House, located on the grounds of the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) to help in meeting the unique palliative care needs of newborns, children, youth and their families.

“I truly feel the impact of the foundation and the relationship with our players in the community will make our community stronger,” added LeBlanc.
