How will Ontario’s minimum wage stack up after Saturday’s hike?

Minimum wage workers in Ontario will be receiving a long-awaited pay hike on Saturday, Oct. 1.

That’s when the province will be increasing the wage by 50 cents to $15.50.

Students under 18 are also getting a 50-cent boost, up to $14.60.

Despite many feeling that’s still not enough to keep up with the ever-increasing cost of living, it does rank Ontario fairly high among Canada’s other provinces and territories.

Once the hike officially goes into effect, Ontario will have the fourth highest minimum wage in Canada.

Nunavut leads the pack with a minimum wage of $16.00, followed by Yukon at $15.70 and British Columbia at $15.65.

Who pays the least?

That would be Saskatchewan, where you’ll rake in just $11.81 per hour.

However, that low wage is slated to be raised to $15 by October 2024.
