Community group short $75K for Richmond pavilion project

By CityNews Ottawa

A new pavilion for the village of Richmond is now 90 per cent funded, just $75,000 short of the Richmond Legacy Community Association's goal.

The same community group that coordinated the village of Richmond's 200th anniversary celebrations in 2018 is looking to build a new pavilion on the Richmond fair grounds behind the curling club.

“It has great exposure from Perth street,” said Cydney Green, co-chair of the Richmond Legacy Community Association, on The Sam Laprade Show. “The nice thing about this is that, with the agricultural society joining and being partners with us, it will allow people in the community to use this facility for all sorts of things.”

The community organization started with seed funding leftover from the anniversary celebration and are raising money through corporate partnerships, community groups, fundraising events and individual donations. For $150, individuals can purchase a commemorative plaque to support the initiative.

“There's lots to offer in our community. Even though we're growing, I don't believe we're going to lose the personality of our village,” said Green. “It's a pretty special place to be. And this building will be one of the first buildings that have been built in our community for the public in a very long time. So we're very proud of that.”

More information about the pavilion and the Richmond Legacy Community Association can be found on their website.
