Police laid charges against a driving instructor after an officer caught them scrolling on their phone in traffic.
Officials said that a provincial police officer stopped the driver on Highway 417 near Moodie on Wednesday morning. The driver, police said, was seen scrolling through their phone while it was attached to the dash.
“A reminder that even if you are not holding your phone, you cannot scroll through it while driving,” police said.
The driver is facing a $615 fine, three demerit points and a three-day driving suspension upon conviction.
In December, officers put out another story and photo of a transport truck driver who was watching videos on the highway.
A photo shared by police shows a large white truck, and through the driver’s window, a phone can be seen. According to officers, this incident happened just before 10:00 p.m. on Dec. 16.
Officials said that a police officer saw the driver watching videos near Carling Avenue.

In Ontario, a driver using a phone is four times more likely to crash than a driver focusing on the road, according to the province’s website. This results in one person being injured in distracted driving every half an hour.
