Rideau Canal Skateway will not open for the first time in 50 year history

For the first time it its more than five decade history, the Rideau Canal Skateway will not open this season.

The National Capital Commission (NCC) announced Friday, Feb. 24, that the weather “got the best” of them this year.

The Rideau Canal Skateway, touted as the world's largest outdoor skating rink, first opened for the 1970-71 season and has opened every year since – until now.
