Freezing rain warning issued for Ottawa

By Alex Black

A freezing rain warning has been issued for Ottawa and surrounding areas.

According to Environment Canada, precipitation will begin in the form of snow or freezing rain during the evening Wednesday before transitioning to periods of freezing rain by early Thursday morning.

The freezing rain will then transition to rain as the temperature climbs through the morning.

There is a possibility of 2 to 4 millimetres of ice build up on surfaces or untreated roads by Thursday morning, though there is some uncertainty around when the heaviest freezing rain will be.

The freezing rain warning is in effect for an area including:

  • Ottawa
  • Metcalfe
  • Richmond
  • Smiths Falls
  • Perth
  • Eastern Lanark County

Residents are advised to be prepared for icy roads, parking lots and walkways and to adjust driving to the changing conditions.
