Gatineau man charged in Carleton Place shooting

A man from Gatineau is facing close to a dozen charges in connection with a shooting investigation in Carleton Place.

Officers with the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to reports of possible gunshots in the area of Sussex and Princess streets around 12 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17.

One person suffered minor injuries.

As a result of the investigation Ahmad Hassan, 29, was taken into custody and faces the following charges:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Aggravated assault
  • Uttering Threats – cause death or bodily harm
  • Reckless discharge of firearm – life or safety
  • Discharge a firearm into or at a place in a reckless manner
  • Discharge a restricted firearm or prohibited firearm with intent
  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to probation order
