Talk of the town: Is the Hershey factory returning to Smiths Falls?

The former Hersey’s chocolate plant in Smiths Falls is up for sale again, and the talk of the town is about whether Hershey’s could make a comeback.
The site was vacated by the cannabis company, Canopy Growth, and that company looking for a buyer.
The Smiths Falls based company began laying off 35 per cent of its workforce in February 2023.
A Hershey’s spokesperson told CityNews Ottawa that there was no news to share, but that “we continually assess sites for future growth across our network.”
Smiths Falls Mayor Shawn Pankow told the station in an email that he is, “not able to discuss any possible negotiations, that may be going on between Canopy Growth and potential purchasers of 1 Hersey Drive.”
Rumours have been swirling around the area for the last couple of weeks, with many residents believing that the chocolate company will be making a return to the area.
