Ottawa police busy with multiple traffic stops over weekend, including seizing drugs and handgun

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) said officers found drugs and a handgun during a traffic stop in the city’s downtown core over the a weekend.

In a post to X, formerly known as Twitter, the OPS said officers conducted a traffic stop on a suspended driver on Rideau Street overnight.

The driver was arrested, and police seized cocaine and a handgun.

No other information was provided, but the OPS said it will provide more information at a later time.

The OPS said it also arrested a driver who tried fleeing from police after a traffic stop this past weekend.

According to police, the driver injured a number of officers while fleeing.

The driver and the vehicle were later located after quick actions from police dispatch.
