OC Transpo launching credit card payment system

By CityNews Ottawa staff

Transit riders across the city will soon be able to tap their credit cards when they use Ottawa’s transit services.

Effective Thursday, Sept. 7, OC Transpo is launching a system-wide expansion of O-Payment,  providing people with an opportunity to pay with their credit cards or mobile wallet when taking a bus or riding the O-train.

OC Transpo started testing for the O-Payment system this summer as smartcard fare readers were placed on all light rail transit (LRT) fare gates and buses.

Mark Sutcliffe, mayor of Ottawa, along OC Transpo general manager Renée Amilcar are officially going to launch the expansion of the system on Thursday.

“OC Transpo is continuing to make taking transit easier and more convenient,” said a City release. “Transit customers will be able to tap credit cards and mobile wallets on any OC Transpo bus, and on fare gates at any O-Train station.”
