Crews respond to fires in Hintonburg, Manotick Village

Ottawa firefighters were busy on Friday, responding to multiple fires in different parts of the city.

The first was in Manotick Village. Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) said it received a 9-1-1 call at 4:46 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20 from from someone reporting smoke coming from the basement of a single family home in the 400 block of Lockmaster Cresscent.

The fire was found in a mechanical room and was extinguished before it could spread. The fire was declared under control at 5:01 p.m., nine minutes after arriving on scene. High pressurized fans were used to ventilate the residual smoke out of the home.

The second fire, happened in Hintonburg. OFS received multiple 9-1-1 calls just after 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20 with reports of a fire starting in the back of a home on St. Francis between Duhamel Street and Gladstone Avenue.

OFS called a second alarm to bring more crews to the scene. The fire spread into the eaves and onto the roof of the home.

Firefighters did multiple searches of all the units no residents were found but multiple pets were brought out safely.

The fire was brought under control at 8:31 p.m.

No injuries were reported from either incident.
