Ollie Bassett is vying for his second straight Canadian Premier League (CPL) Players’ Player of the Year honour.

The reigning Players’ Player of the Year for the 2022 season, Bassett is one of 10 finalists for the award this year.

Introduced in 2022, the Players’ Player of the Year award allows every player in the CPL to cast their vote. Players are asked to vote for their top three players in order, and they are not allowed to vote for their own teammates.

The 25-year-old British midfielder was also named the CPL’s Player of the Year in 2022.

“I’m extremely happy to be nominated for this award again this season,” said Bassett. “It was an honour to win the first-ever Players’ Player of the Year award in 2022. It means a lot to be recognized by your fellow professionals for your performances over the course of the season, so, of course, I’m happy to get the recognition again this year.”

Bassett’s 11 goals tied Cavalry FC striker Myer Bevan for the Golden Boot as the league’s top goal scorer

TD Place has been dubbed “Olliewood” as Bassett has gained quite the following and has earned praises from Ottawa soccer fans.

The winner will be announced at an award ceremony in Hamilton on Oct. 26, 2023.
