More than 300 cases of beer intended for a wedding seized during traffic stop in eastern Ontario

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers seized 326 cases of beer intended for a wedding after a traffic stop in eastern Ontario on Wednesday, Nov. 1.

Officers with the Lennox and Addington County OPP responded to a call that a rental van driving on Highway 401 with a blown tire at roughly 2:10 p.m. yesterday afternoon.

The OPP said am officer found rim marks on the westbound shoulder of Highway 401 with the marks becoming flatter meaning the rim was worn off.

Police said they noticed four cases of beer in the front passenger seat, all labeled in French, when an officer was speaking with the driver.

“When questioned about the beer the driver was evasive,” the OPP said in a release. “When confronted about the transportation of the beer from Quebec the driver again became evasive. A further search of the vehicle for liquor found the entire back of the van filled with beer cases.”

The driver later admitted the alcohol was not purchased through an authorized outlet in Ontario, adding that the booze was for a wedding.

There were 326 cases of beer of different brands with bottles and cans.
