Local army regiment to fire blank artillery rounds on Remembrance Day

The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) is advising the public of military artillery that will be fired on Remembrance Day at two Ottawa locations.

Army Reservists from Ottawa-based 30th Field Artillery Regiment, RCA will fire 105-mm blank ammunition from their C3 Howitzers as gun salutes in honour of Remembrance Day.

The CAF says the artillery will be fired around 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11 during the National Military Cemetery ceremony at Beechwood Cemetery in Vanier, and during the National Artillery Memorial Remembrance Day ceremony on Sussex Drive in Ottawa.

Residents and visitors may notice a succession of loud bangs from these blank rounds, which do not contain any projectiles and pose no risk to public safety.

The public is also asked to take extra caution when approaching military vehicles and personnel.
