Two charged following drug and weapons seizure in Smiths Falls

Two people are facing charges after a bust in Smiths Falls turned up drugs and weapons.

A search warrant was executed at a home in Smiths Falls on Thursday, Nov. 23, with suspected cocaine, opioids, firearms and prohibited devices being seized.

The warrant was executed by members of the Lanark, Leeds and Grenville Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), in partnership with the Smiths Falls Police service and Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), East Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine and Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU).

As a result, Benjamin Duhamel, 34, of Smiths Falls, faces the following charges:

  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition – two counts
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – Opioid (other than heroin)

Vernon Watts, 57, of Smiths Falls, faces the following charge:

  • Possession of schedule I substance – cocaine

Both Duhamel and Watts are schedule to appear in court in Perth in January.
