Missing man found dead near Smiths Falls was the victim of hit-and-run police say

A 34-year-old man was who was discovered dead close to Smiths Falls, Ontario was the victim of a hit-and-run incident according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Steven Tate of Montague Township who was last seen in Smiths Falls on Nov. 4. and was reported missing on Nov. 4, 2023. He was last seen alive the same date in the early morning hours.
His body was found along Highway 15 near Smiths Falls on Wednesday, Nov. 8.
The OPP said in a release that their investigation suggests that Tate was struck by a vehicle and the driver left the scene.
Investigators believe the collision involved a dark coloured hatchback or sedan which will have damage to the front passenger side.
Members of the Lanark County OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, continue to investigate with the assistance of OPP Collision Reconstructionist and Technical Collision Investigation team, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
