Fire crews respond to kitchen fire in apartment building on Russell Road
Ottawa firefighters were on the scene at an apartment building in the city’s east end over the weekend following a kitchen fire which caused a spike in levels of carbon monoxide.
Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) said fire crews responded to the five-storey structure located on Russell Road near St. Laurent Boulevard at 8:03 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17.
A tenant made a 9-1-1 call reporting smoke coming from their neighbour’s third floor unit.

Firefighters arrived in four minutes and confirmed that the fire had spread to the cupboards in the kitchen.
The fire was declared under control at 8:18 a.m. OFS said the air quality is currently being monitored as there are elevated levels of carbon monoxide inside the structure. Firefighters will monitor the air quality before letting residents back in.
There no occupants inside the unit at the time. No injuries have been reported.
