Pembroke man arrested for shoplifting and breach of probation

A 32-year-old man wanted for shoplifting and breaching his probation was arrested in a town northwest of the capital on Saturday.

The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said the theft happened at a store in Pembroke in mid-December.

Police said they saw the suspect on a bicycle on Pembroke Street West at around 12:10 p.m. on Sunday.

Officers said the accused abandoned his bicycle in a residential area after a chase and they brought in the OPP’s K9 Unit to help catching the suspect.

He was arrested about one hour later after being tracked to the area of Forced Road and Stuart Street.

John Dagenais, 32, of Pembroke was charged with theft under $5,000 and two counts of breaching probation.

The accused was held for a bail hearing on January 3, 2024, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
