Ottawa Fire Service (OFS) personnel safely removed a salt truck operator’s foot that was wedged in their salt truck Sunday morning.
Just after 6:30 a.m., firefighters were called to 4000 block of Albion Road in Findlay Creek where they found the operator’s foot trapped in the salt conveyer system behind the cab of the vehicle.
Firefighters immediately shut off the vehicle and began stabilizing it. OFS says first responders applied a tourniquet to the operator’s left leg just above the foot before using specialized tools to safely extricate the person.
Firefighters applied a splint for comfort before using a scoop to bring the operator down from the truck. The operator was handed over to Ottawa Paramedics for care.
OFS cleared the scene just before 7:30 a.m. and left it in control with the Ottawa Police Service.
