Firefighters rescue dog from kitchen fire in Kanata

No injuries have been reported as firefighters responded to a kitchen fire in a Kanata townhome on Wednesday afternoon.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) said it received a 9-1-1 call just after 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3 reporting smoke coming from a vent in a middle unit townhome in the 0-100 block of Connelly Place.

After arriving at the scene, firefighters confirmed black smoke was coming from a second floor window.

The fire was brought under control at 3:56 p.m and the fire had started on the stove top and spread to the counter and cabinets.

After searching the home, crews found a dog on the second floor, and safely brought the animal outside.
