Seasonal temperatures, a few flurries in the forecast for Ottawa this weekend

It’s going to be a fairly typical winter weekend in the nation’s capital.
Environment Canada is forecasting a cloudy day for Friday, Jan. 5 with a high minus 4 C and a wind chill value around minus 8.
The weather agency says there is a 30 per cent change of flurries for the evening with a low minus 11 C and a wind chill value of minus 16.
We’re looking at a mainly cloudy and cold day for Saturday with no precipitation.
The forecast high is minus 8 C with a wind chill of minus 18.
There is a 40 per cent chance of flurries for the evening as the temperature dips down to minus 10 C.
That chance of flurries continues into Sunday with a high minus 5 C.
Again, this is a typical forecast for this time of year as the average high is -5.9 C while the average low is -14.9 C.
Now, for a few fun facts — the warmest temperature recorded for January 5 was 10 C in 2007, according to Environment Canada. (between 1939-2011)
In that same time period, the coldest temperature recorded was minus 27.2 in 1930.
As for snow, our greatest snowfall was in 1944 when 10.4 cm fell and the date with the most snowfall recorded on the ground was in 2008 with 64 cm.
