Firefighters face hazardous conditions while battling blaze on Stagecoach Road

By Alex Black

Ottawa firefighters had to contend with messy weather and hazardous conditions while battling a house fire southwest of Greely.

Around 7:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9, Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to a two-storey single family home on Stagecoach Road, between Lakeshore Drive and Old Prescott Road.

A homeowner had called 9-1-1 to a report a fire in an upstairs bedroom and balcony that was extending outside the home.

A working fire was declared while crews were on route, and upon arrival at the scene, flames could be seen coming from the first and second floors.

OFS says firefighters began suppression operations and established a tanker shuttle to keep a continuous water supply at the scene.

Then, at 8:18 p.m. crews had to evacuate the home and take a defensive approach due to heavy fire conditions.

Also, live hydro wires posed hazardous conditions for firefighters.

The fire was declared under control shortly before 10 p.m. and there are no injuries reported.

A fire investigator has been dispatched to determine the origin and cause of the blaze.
