OC Transpo is expanding its O-Train network with Lines 2 and 4 set to open later this year.
This comes after a recent fare hike by the transit system and is part of its budget proposal for 2024.
The planned expansions include Bayview Station, which is expected to become a main connection between Lines 1 and 2 once the O-Train South Extention launches, according to a media release.
Access to Line 2 will be directly below the existing Line 1 platforms and customers making transfers will be able to connect within a fare paid zone. The station will be accessed by bus, with stops located on Albert Street.
The extension is also expected to connect downtown to Ottawa’s international Airport through two transfers.
Once on Line 2, customers can connect to Line 4 to the Airport at South Keys Station, which is also directly connected to the existing Transitway station.
Unlike at Bayview, customers will use the same platform to connect between Line 2 and Line 4.
In the south, Leitrim Station has been expanded to access the O-Train and also includes new stops and a new Park and Ride lot with free parking and electric vehicle charging stations.
Bowesville is a brand-new station on the O-Train network located near the Manotick Station neighbourhood and close to Riverside South and Barrhaven.
OC Transpo said it will have connecting bus services and over 800 parking spaces.
Limebank Station, the terminus of Line 2, is being built to be a new transfer hub for Barrhaven and Riverside South. Trains will depart for Bayview Station every 12 minutes and the transit service said it will take about 35 minutes to arrive at its destination.
OC Transpo did not provide a timeline on when construction will be completed but anticipates it should be this year.
